From whence I came

I still remember going to the mall (shut up, I was a teenager) in 1996 or so and purchasing my first 14.4kbps modem. I told my friend that it was going to connect me to the whole world. I may be a little less doe-eyed now at 30, but I still love the web.

I made my first website in 1997 using an HTML book I bought at an outlet mall. It was terrible. I made another two years later for an independent record label I wanted to start. It was pretty bad, too. It was actually probably 2004 before I made a website that didn’t hurt to look at. Thankfully, I was smart enough by then to realize that I couldn’t make a living designing one good website every seven years, so I decided to focus on programming. I’ve dabbled with a lot of technologies, but my passion for good design always brings me back around to XHTML & CSS. I started Pixelluxe as a way to share that passion with people that have more money than me.

I’ve been officially freelancing since 2007. I had primarily been working with local Roanoke, VA-based agencies until 2008 when I starting freelancing in the Washington, DC area as well. After seeing the jump in quality of work that national clients bring to the table, I’ve been on the lookout for other agency partnerships in larger markets.

In my spare time I play banjo in a band called Red Clay River. When I finally get a night to myself, I spend it cooking; which is what I enjoy more than anything else.
