AD2 Roanoke

XHTML & CSS Cutup from previous website / PHP Templating

For a time during 2007 and 2008 I served as Online Communications chairperson for AD2 Roanoke. AD2 is a branch of The Advertising Federation, a networking group for folks in advertising. AD2’s focus is on the younger professionals in the market (32 and under). During my time on the board, I decided the site’s code could use an overhaul.

The site already existed, but the code needed a little cleaning up. Using the existing site as a guide, I did the cutup over from scratch to help improve search engine rankings and updatability. The pages use PHP templates to break the content down into manageable, reusable sections. This makes it much easier to update the site. If a link needs to be changed in the footer, for example, it only has to be updated in one file and the change will carry over to all the pages in the site.

In updating the code, the Google search engine results catapulted from around 80th place into the top ten within less than ten days.

AD2 now has a new chair of Online Communications, so any updates to the page since then have been done by that person, but most everything remains the same and can be viewed at http://www.ad2roanoke.org/. This site is also still hosted through Pixelluxe.
